Chancel Mbemba

Chancel Mangulu Mbemba is a Congolese professional footballer who plays as a defender. Born on 8 August 1994 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, he began his professional career at Anderlecht, where he won the Belgian Pro League in his debut season of 2013–14. He then moved to Newcastle United in 2015, where he played in the Premier League and won the Championship in 2017.

In 2018, he was signed by Primeira Liga side Porto for a reported £7.14 million fee. During his four years at Porto, he won the Primeira Liga and Taça de Portugal double in 2020 and 2022. He scored his first goal for Porto on 24 November 2019, in a match that qualified his team to the last 16 of the Taça de Portugal.

In 2022, Mbemba signed a three-year contract with Marseille on a free transfer. He made his debut on 7 August as the Ligue 1 season began with a 4–1 home win over Reims, and scored his first goal in his third game on 20 August to open a 2–1 win over Nantes also at the Stade Vélodrome.

Internationally, Mbemba has been a full international for DR Congo since 2012, earning over 60 caps and representing the country at four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, coming third in 2015.

In terms of personal accolades, he was named Primeira Liga Defender of the Month in January 2022, was included in the Primeira Liga Team of the Year for 2021–22, and won the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé for the 2022–23 season.

As of 3 June 2023, his club domestic league appearances and goals are as follows: Anderlecht (63 apps, 6 goals), Newcastle United (54 apps, 1 goal), Porto (87 apps, 5 goals), and Marseille (36 apps, 5 goals). His national team caps and goals for DR Congo stand at 69 and 4, respectively.
